KeepnTrack Tip of the Week
For the week of 07.12.10
Browser Kiosk Mode
Kiosk mode is a feature in most browsers that limit user access to web pages only. In Kiosk mode the browser window is full screen, and the tool, menu, and status bars are not displayed.
To enable Kiosk Mode for Internet Explorer 8:
- Open Internet Explorer and navigate to the desired webpage.
- For Windows XP: Click on the Start menu then click on Run. In the Run box type: iexplore –k.
- For Vista/Windows 7: Click on the Start menu and search for iexplore –k.
To exit Kiosk Mode press CTRL+ALT+DEL and end the application in the task manager, or press ALT+TAB to switch programs.
To enable Kiosk Mode (full screen) in Firefox 3:
- Click on Tools, then click Full Screen. You can also press F11 on your keyboard as a shortcut.
*By default the full screen autohides any visible toolbars, but unlike IE8, you can bring them back at any time by hovering your mouse over the top edge of the screen. There are browser add-ons to disable the toolbars while in full screen mode.
To enable Kiosk Mode (full screen) in Google Chrome:
- Just like in Firefox, the shortcut for Full Screen is F11. You can also click the wrench icon in the top right corner of the browser and select “Full Screen.” The toolbars are not available, but you will see a reminder at the top of the page that F11 exits Full Screen mode.
